The Digital Natives: Effective Strategies to Market to Generation Z

 In Advertising, Marketing Strategies

Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012, is a generation that has grew up in a world full of technological advances and innovations. Ever since we were born, we have been able to easily access any information we want at a tap.

Effectively marketing your business to our tech-savvy generation can be tricky. I am sure you have heard many things about Gen Z like our short attention spans and our addiction to social media. With that in mind, the perfect way to market your business to Gen Z is by using these things to your advantage.

1. Capture our attention

It is crucial that your content captures our attention within the first few seconds. If you are not able to hook us in within the first eight seconds, we will likely scroll to more content that we feel is more worthy of our time.

2. Visuals, visuals, visuals

It is also a great strategy to rely on visuals when appealing us. We would much rather look at a photo or watch a video than read a bunch of text. It would be effective to primarily focus on using more visual-oriented social media platforms such as Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube to appeal to this audience.

3. Ensure mobile device compatibility

When designing your content, you should ensure that it is compatible with mobile devices. As attached as we are to our phones, we are much more likely to view your content on a mobile device than on a laptop or tablet.

4. Emphasize price and savings

Another great strategy is to emphasize price and how your product or service is saving us money. Many Gen Z’ers are young adults who value saving money whenever possible. We are more likely to purchase a product or service if it costs less than the competitors or if it will save us more money in the long run.

5. Actively engage on social media

One last important way to market your business to Gen Z is by regularly engaging with us on social media. When businesses respond to our comments, we are more likely to view the brand as authentic—especially if you include our name or tag us in the comment. Compared to other generations, Gen Z is more likely to think positively of brands that respond to comments with a touch of tasteful humor when appropriate. When it is appropriate, you can even throw an emoji or two in there. Have fun with it!
